Episode 3 - Enter Other Worlds

Before the concert, Astro, Ambercrombie, Alejo and Kennedy met in the park to play rocket ball. Today however, only a week after the concert, twelve children met in that park: including Karen Tawashi, Jade, and C.J. The three girls had really bonded with Astro and Zoran during the rehearsals, so Karen suggested they continue their interactions by playing together in the park every afternoon, bringing any other friends they had to play as well. Jade had brought her twin brother, Jay. Ally, Kennedy, Abercrombie, Alejo, and Lyn showed up with Astro. C.J knew Hannah Red and invited her to come. In turn, Hannah invited Reeno. Karen invited Alex Zapp and Carlos to come play, but Alex's debut concert with robots and humans was such a huge success that the young popstar couldn't get away... And Carlos had refused, point blank.
It was the starting of a new tradition as far as the children were concerned: They would meet at the park after school to play a game before dinner, and would take turns picking what game they were to play that day. Today, it was Karen's turn to choose. To no one's surprise, she chose 'Cops and Robbers'. It seemed the young Tawashi girl always wanted to play something that included being either a policeman, detective, or undercover agent. Thus, they divided into two even teams and began to chase each other about, tagging one another and laughing delightedly.

"Okay, so guess what! The ARRS is getting a new member." Karen said, after tagging Astro and Kennedy. The two boys headed toward the designated jail area.

"Let me guess. You?" Ally teased, coming from behind her and reaching for the object.

The others, including Karen, laughed briefly but tried to save most of their breath for running. "Nope. There's a new robot in the making whose going to join the squad sometime next week." Karen explained, swinging her arm wildly in attempts to touch Ally. The yellow bot managed to dodge out of the way just in time.

"Oh, cool!" Astro said.

"But why do we care?" Ally added.

"Well, it's important to me because I got to choose this one personally. Time out!" Karen gasped, holding up her hands and symbolizing a 'T'. The group gathered together in a circle and collapsed, being utterly exhausted.

"What do you mean you chose it?" Kennedy asked.

"Just that. I chose him. They were going to build a brand new robot with super advanced functions; like a photographic memory, fingerprint identification and stuff like that-- But I convinced them to recycle one of our disaster-response training robots instead."

"Disaster-response training robot? I've never heard of those." Astro admitted.

"They're like really old robots without emotion. Remember that Asheron guy who looked a lot like Pluto but didn't have Kokoro? They're like that. The police department uses them to train officers how to rescue victims in various emergency situations. This one used to be a crash dummy. Dad said once the bot gets out of the shop, I'll get to name him too." Karen stated, proudly folding her arms and smiling.

"So he's being upgraded?" Alejo questioned, being very interested in advanced robotics and A.I.

Karen nodded. "Yup! Because he's such an old model, they're not sure how many advanced features they'll be able to add, but at least he'll have Kokoro from now on."

"That's great!" Astro cheered.

"I'm a little confused. Why did you convince them to recycle an old robot, instead of building a new one?" Hannah asked.

"This particular robot was always a little quirky in the first place. You know how sometimes parents say that a glitchy computer or stubborn toaster has 'personality'? Well, that's what the trainers always said about this one. I thought he deserved a little something extra." Karen explained.

"Speaking of the police; Karen, how would I go about joining the ARRS?" Jay asked suddenly. Karen didn't expect such a question and turned to look at him.

Jay and Jade were built from the pieces a really old household bot whose primary functions were companion and protector. Jade had been constructed with the soft companion functions, while Jay was constructed with the rough protector functions-- Still, these weren't very advanced functions. In fact, Jade and Jay were only built to be the legacy of the aforementioned robot and a comfort to the old lady who had loved it very much. The old lady Jay and Jade referred to as 'Grandma' was visiting Metrocity in order to watch the concert because Jade was in it, but all three would be returning to their own little town in a few days. Grandma considered Jade and Jay to be the children of her dearly departed robotic friend, and thus her greatest treasures. Though Jay himself was Jade's twin brother, but he didn't look anything like her, much less like a police bot. He was colored green and grey and wore (what looked like) a knight's helmet with retractable mouth cover and visor. He couldn't fly with rocket boosters like Astro, Ally, or even the ARRS; instead he glided on air currents using retractable wings under his arms, which wings could double as weapons when needed. But why would Jay want to be a police bot?

...All these thoughts went through Karen's mind at a slow, calculated pace so she was left staring at Jay for a moment. The green robot thought that perhaps she was confused by his question and tried to clarify: "I really wanna be a cop, but the problem is, I wasn't built for that kind of stuff. So what do I do to become one?"

"I guess you could get upgrades, like the kind my crash-dummy is getting, but other than that I don't really know. It also takes a firm, duty bound state of mind." Karen said simply.

"Do I have that?" Jay asked.

"I don't know. You seem tender to me, but a little training could fix that. A cop has to be willing to do what it takes to complete their job, they also have to be ready for action at all time, and okay with not being around their family very much... That's kinda why Daddy isn't home very often." Karen said, becoming suddenly crestfallen toward the end of her sentence.

"Don't worry Karen. My father is always very busy too." Hannah said softly, placing her hand on Karen's shoulder. The young Tawashi smiled brightly, accepting the comfort her friend had offered.

"It's not a big deal, really. Crime never takes a break, so neither can justice." Karen said, stretching out and looking at the clear blue sky overhead. Suddenly, her deep brown eyes lit up and she smiled. "Hey! That's perfect!" She gasped.

"What is?" Jay asked, tilting her head slightly.

"Justice! That's what I'm going to call the new robot!" Karen cheered, rising to her feet.

"Justice?" The group asked in unison.

"Yeah! Well, no. Justin. But it's kinda the same. Oh! I have to go to the station and tell Dad!" With this, the young Tawashi spun around and started off across the park. Half way, she paused and turned around again. "Jay!" She called, "Why don't you come with me? We can ask the commissioner about your becoming a cop!"

Jay's countenance brightened as these words were spoken and instantly jumped up, following after the human child. Jade followed him, wanting to support her brother.

"Aw, I guess the game is over." Abercrombie moaned.

"A real shame too, because you guys were winning." Ally taunted, laughing and springing to her feet. Astro also stood up as well. "I should get to the Ministry of Science. Dr. O'Shay is expecting me." He said.

"Me too." Said Reno, dusting himself off.

"Alright." Kennedy replied. "We'll see you tomorrow at school then, Astro."

"Uhm, Astro?.. Could I come with you?" Lyn asked suddenly, albeit shyly. Astro smiled and nodded. The friends bade each other farewell and went their separate ways. Ally followed Lyn, Astro and Reno toward the city's local and most popular labratory. The huge building could be seen from miles away, standing tall in the very heart of MetroCity. Lots of people worked there with Dr. O'Shay at their head. It was usually a peaceful and friendly place to be, but when the foursome arrived that evening they found it blazing red with alarm bells and swarming with scientists who were racing to and fro, screaming. Together, Astro, Ally, Lyn, and Reno fought their way to the communications room.

"Doctor O'Shay! What's going on?" Astro called as he entered. The old scientist looked stricken as he turned to face the robot boy. "There's a huge compartment of energy from outer space coming this way." He managed to say.

"Energy?" Lyn asked.

"How much?" Reno asked.

"The readings are off the charts. This- er.. Energy ball, seems to have more energy than MetroCity could use in 40 years!.. And I'm afraid it's headed directly for us... And I mean 'directly'. If it continues on it's current path, it will collide with the Ministry of Science and take out half Metrocity!"

"We can't let that happen!" Astro snapped.

O'Shay's eyes were worried and sad. "I'm afraid there's nothing we can do. The object is made of pure energy. You'll be consumed and destroyed if you touch it."

"We have to do something!" Lyn insisted.

"All we can do is order an immediate evacuation of this part of the city." O'Shay sighed in defeat.

"How long until it gets here?" Astro asked.

"10 minutes." Dr. O'Shay said woefully.

"But, there's too many people. Not everyone will be able to get out in time." Ally worried aloud. O'Shay was silent. He'd already gone over all the facts, and he couldn't think of anything else to do. The thought was practically tearing him apart even now.

"No!" Astro called suddenly, turning and rocketing out of the room.
"Astro!" Lyn and O'Shay called in unison. Quickly, Lyn followed him.

"Oh, what are we going to do?" O'Shay worried, turning to face the screen with all the read outs. "We can't stop it, but we can't abandon millions of people!"

"How long ago was this energy ball discovered?" Reno asked.

"Just now. It just came out of nowhere so fast!" Dr. O'Shay replied.

Ally remained quiet for a few minutes, then partially turned toward the door. "I'm going to follow Astro." She said.

O'Shay caught her by the arm before she could take off. "Wait!" He begged, "Take this and give it to Astro so we can stay in contact with you." As he spoke, he handed Ally a small, white microphone chip from his coat.

Ally took it and raised an eyebrow. "Annnnnd, what good is this going to do if we all get blown up?" She asked skeptically. O'Shay looked at her seriously, displeased with the question, so Ally merely shrugged. In a matter of minutes, she was outside, rocketing toward the atmosphere behind Astro. Lyn didn't have rocket boosters and was thus unable to fly after them.

"Here, catch." Ally said, carelessly flipping O'Shay's phone to Astro as she pulled up beside him. Quickly, he placed it inside himself and was able to contact the Ministry. "Doctor?" He began.

"Astro! What are you planning to do? You can't touch it!" O'Shay's voice sounded.

"I have to try something!" Astro argued.

"I know.. I just don't think there's anything you can do." O'Shay answered.

"I'm going to try anyway." Astro responded. By now, the endlessness of space could be seen appearing around them. The two stopped and hovered in place. Their eyes scanned the vastness of space in search of the fabled energy ball, but it was silent and empty of everything except distant stars. Suddenly, a faint purple glow appeared ahead of them. What had looked to be a distant star soon became an ever growing ball of purple energy, racing for them at an incalculable speed. The sound of crackling static and power strong enough to fry a robot's circuits could be heard, almost felt, even from the distance it was.

"Well, there it is. Now what are you going to do? Punch it?" Ally asked skeptically as it drew closer.

"Not if I don't have to." Astro replied. As he spoke, Astro charged his arm cannon, then aimed and fired at the approaching object. The blast struck it's target head on but the energy ball continued at it's same pace and seemed completely untouched!

"It absorbed that blast like a sponge!" Astro cried as he recharged and prepared to fire again. Quickly, Ally turned and placed three fingers on Astro's face. "Here," She said simply, "Let me help."

All of a sudden, Astro felt very strange. He could no longer move or think, and could barely see anything through the static in his vision. It felt like he was malfunctioning! Briefly, a painful shock went throughout his entire body, then it was gone just as quickly as it had come. Ally let go and turned to face the energy ball. When she did, Astro's system was instantly returned to normal, allowing him to move, think and see yet again. What had happened? Astro looked at Ally who stretched out her hand toward the incoming object. As she did so, her arm suddenly melted away to reveal a cannon exactly like Astro's! This was surprising and puzzling to Astro. Last he checked, Ally didn't have one of those... Then he remembered Ally's ability to copy the functions of other robots. She must have copied his arm cannon, and that weird stuff from a moment ago was what happened when she did!

"Ready?" Ally asked, focusing hard on the speeding star. Astro nodded and aimed as she did.
"FIRE!" he demanded. At the same time, Astro and Ally released their shots, but to the same end. It had no effect on the ball of energy at all-- And it was too late. The star sped straight for them. Astro and Ally barely avoided being hit as it zoomed by.

"LOOK OUT!" A voice cried suddenly.

Astro turned to look at Ally, but she was silent. Had that voice come from inside the energy ball? Did Ally hear it? Her expression wasn't mystified or confused in anyway. Astro assumed she hadn't heard it... Perhaps he had only imagined it? Astro only wondered about it for a nano-second before he and Ally zoomed after the retreating energy ball.

"Doctor! I don't think we can stop it. We can't even slow it down! It absorbs everything we throw at it!" Astro cried.

"Is there anyway you could perhaps change it's course?" O'Shay's voice sounded back over the speaker.

"I don't know," Astro replied, "but I won't give up!"
Astro flew around to the side of the energy ball and readied his arm cannon again. Proceeding to fire, Ally followed his example and did the same. Still, no damage nor hindrance was done. By now, they were entering the atmosphere. The hot fiery waves surrounded and burned Astro and Ally, but didn't do a thing to the space object. Once more, the Astro fired his arm canon. Still nothing.

"I can't use my cannon anymore, Astro. I'm not as evolved as you are. I'll use the last of my energy if I fire again." Ally warned, her arm returning from canon mode. "Let's just try to push it!"

Astro remembered Dr. O'Shay's warning about contact with the ball, but shoved the thought away to the back of his mind and reached out. He was willing to sacrifice anything to save the people in MetroCity.

This time, the ball reacted:
A bolt of red lightning sprung forth from the ball and struck both Ally and Astro, dragging them against their will at the same speed the ball was going. It felt as though every circuit, even the tiniest part of their systems, were on fire and that every inch of them was being viciously ripped apart! Then, all at once, awful memories of their pasts were relived, and their darkest feelings were renewed inside them.

"Stay out of the way, you fools!" A hissing voice echoed in their robotic minds as they cried out in pain. Then the lightning recoiled and dropped them. Instantly, they were able to regain control of their corrupt feelings and the pain eased, but both Ally and Astro found that they had no energy left.

"It's alive!" Astro moaned through clenched teeth. As they fell, MetroCity and the Ministry of Science suddenly appeared below.

"Come on, Ash! We have to knock it off course or something!" Ally growled, trying her hardest to reactivate her rocket boosters. Astro felt fear and despair creep upon him as he watched the purple ball draw closer and closer to his home below. Struggling, he readied his arm cannon but he couldn't fire it. He was out of energy. In a burst desperation, Astro's arm rockets and rocket boots sprung to life, speeding him ahead until he reached the Ministry of Science and the spot the ball was going to hit. There, he hovered in place. With nothing else to do, Astro stretched out his arms on either side of his body and watched. The buzzing and crackling was unnerving as it grew louder and louder. Soon, the severe heat being produced could be felt.

"Astro! What are you doing?!" O'Shay's heart-sick cry sounded from the microphone.

"ASTRO NO! THAT WON'T STOP IT!! MOVE!" Ally cried out. Her boosters had also reactivated, but she did not have a pair in her arms like Astro did, and thus could not best the energy ball's speed and reach Astro in time.

"If you can hear me, please stop! You can't destroy this place or hurt these people!" Astro stated. A moment later, his mind was filled of two echoing voices: One belonging to the small child who had cried out before and the other was that harsh one that attacked them.

"This is his home! We have to change direction!" The child began, "It's too late for that! We can't stop!" hissed the foul one.

The energy ball was alive! Why couldn't it change it's direction? Astro closed his eyes and cowered, but did not leave his post, bracing himself for the inevitable impact. "I won't let you." He muttered, opening his eyes again and staring determinedly at his doom. Within seconds, the ball would collide with the ministry, destroy half the city, and take Astro with it..

"WE MUST STOP!" The child shrieked.

What happened next happened too quickly for complete comprehension and left Astro in a daze: The purple ball sparked violently, then split in two! A red light shot off in one direction and a blue light in the exact opposite way. Both flew off and disappeared somewhere within the city... But there was no damage or explosion wherever they landed. Astro remained in front of the Ministry of Science for a moment longer, then slowly, he sunk from the sky and landed on the rock pavement below. The panic and sudden relief he had just experienced made Astro feel as though his system had stalled. With the threat gone, he could suddenly feel the loss of the energy he'd used and eventually gone without. He sat on his knees for another moment by himself, completely drained, before Ally collapsed in front of him.

"What is wrong with you?!" She lectured, clearly as exhausted as himself, "You could have been killed! Why do you have to be so heroic all the time?!"

Astro barely had a chance to answer before Lyn, O'Shay, miss Yuko, and millions of other people came swarming around the building to embrace him and make sure he was alright. "Oh Astro!" Lyn cried, "You did it!"

"Yes, and I'm so very proud of you!" O'Shay added, hugging the young robot.

"What did you do to stop it anyway?" Ally asked as one of the scientists helped her to her feet and stood to brace her. Astro only shook his head.

"I-.. I didn't.."

********

The following morning found Astro in school with all his friends, each wanting to hear every detail of his close call.

MEANWHILE...

Dr. O'Shay poured over the readings on a laptop at his desk at home.

"What are you doing, Dr. O'Shay?" Zoran's innocent voice asked suddenly. O'Shay glanced around to find the small, pink robot girl smiling up at him. He smiled back and laughed, inviting her around to take a look.

"I'm trying to find out more about that energy ball from yesterday." He explained, turning his laptop slightly so Zoran could see.

"You mean the one that almost blew us all up?" Zoran asked as she came forward. She stared for a moment at the screen then looked at her creator. "What makes you think it was only energy? Astro said it was alive and that it was speaking to him." She said.

O'Shay's smile fell. "Really? When did he say that?"

Zoran nodded. "I overheard him talking to Ally about it the other day, after you refilled their energy." She said proudly, as if eavesdropping was something to be admired.

"Hmmm. I'll have to ask him about that when he gets out of school." O'Shay muttered to himself.

In fact, Ally had been the only one Astro had told about the voices. He asked if she had also heard them, but Ally said she only heard the harsh voice. She never heard a child. That afternoon, the twelve friends from the previous morning regrouped again at the park after school. Today was Abercrombie's turn to choose the game and he wanted to play 'Hide and Seek'. "I'm good at that game." He said.

"So am I!" Astro laughed.

"Not as good as I am, I'll bet." Ally winked, placing her hands on her hips and shifting her weight to one foot.

"But who should be it?" Lyn asked.

"Who else?" C.J chuckled, pointing to Karen. Karen gladly accepted the challenge and stepped up to the old oak tree to begin counting. Quickly, the children branched off in different directions. Astro scurried away from the others, only to find Ally and Lyn seemed to be following him.

"What's wrong?" He asked, seeing a hint of distress on the faces of both girls.

"Where are you planning to hide?" Ally demanded.

"In the old hotdog wagon, why?" Astro replied.

Lyn and Ally moaned in unison. "I was planning to hide there." Lyn admitted,
"So was I." Ally said.

"Well, we can't all hide in there. There isn't enough room." Astro replied.

"Fine then. I'll just go hide in the branches of the old oak. If I'm quiet, Karen won't notice me." Ally said, turning to go.

Astro thought the mailbox would be a better hiding place and was about to offer the hot dog wagon to Lyn, when he suddenly felt an great impact run into his body! Stumbling a bit, he looked down to see a small robot girl, similar to Zoran in height, hugging him tightly. Her hair was same color as Ally's and pointed in two ways like his own, but was curled at the tips. Lyn even noticed that the girl was wearing a dress similar to her own!

"Oh there you are! It's so nice to see someone familiar in this strange place! I'm glad you are alright. I was quite sure you were gonna die!" The girl cheered.

Astro thought her voice sounded familiar. Ally spun on her heels to look at the little girl and seemed rather unnerved to see her hugging Astro so tightly. "Uhm.. Who are you?" She asked, obvious displeasure in her tone.

"My name is Cacao." The girl announced proudly, opening her surprisingly bright blue eyes.

"I'm sorry. Do you know me?" Astro squeaked awkwardly, the pressure of the girl's embrace was beginning to hurt.

"Oh yes! I nearly ran into you yesterday, remember? You were flying and I was about to blow you and your home up!" Cacao cheered, finally releasing him. That was all the connection Astro needed; he could instantly place the voice to the energy ball! It was the very same child's voice he had heard!

"Wait!..What?" Lyn asked.

"That was so very brave of you! I'm happy you did it because I had no idea that anyone lived here and I like you very, very, very, very much!" Cacao continued, ignoring Lyn completely.

"Then, you're the energy ball?" Astro gasped loudly.

"Oh yes! I was that! I still am, but I like this look better because I'm so cute and look like you!" Cacao cheered, running forward and catching him in a tight hug yet again.

"What!?" Ally snapped, "That was you?! What is your problem?! You almost killed us all!"

"Problem?" Cacao asked, letting go and backing away from Astro. "Problem." She repeated, looking up and tapping her chin with her forefinger as if thinking. "Problem... I don't think I have one. Wait! I remember I did have a problem.. But I don't remember what it was anymore- Oh wait! Oh yes! I was blasted away from my home against my will and it was awful." Toward the end of her sentence, she glanced down sadly and even began to tear up and sniffle.

Astro reached out and touched her shoulder. "Don't cry. It's alright now, nobody was hurt.. Where is your home? Do you know? Maybe I could take you back there?"

Cacao glanced up at him suddenly, and looked into his eyes as though mesmerized. Suddenly, she threw her hands up and squealed loudly, racing forward and embracing him yet again. "You have the most gorgeous soul!" She cried, "I noticed it yesterday too, when you were protecting the big castle. I love your soul!" This was confusing and startling to Lyn and Ally, but most of all to Astro. They stood in silence, watching Cacao snuggle Astro, then she spoke again: "Yes, I think I'm in love!.. Oh yes! I definitely love you! What's your name? Please tell me your name!"

Astro was speechless and somewhat freaked out, but politely spoke his name to her and also introduced his two flabbergasted friends. Cacao did not seem to hear any names further than the one she had asked for, because she didn't even smile at or say 'hello' to Ally or Lyn at all. Instead, she continued to snuggle Astro and say his name over and over again. "Astro... MY Astro!.. Oh, that sounds so wonderful and so nice! I love you, MY Astro, I truly do!"

Ally and Lyn stood, almost fuming it seemed. "He's not your Astro!" Ally snapped.

Just then Karen's voice called out. "Ready or not, here I come!" Cacao stiffened and looked petrified for a moment at the sound. For a moment, Astro, Ally, and Lyn were at a loss as to wither they should run and hide real quick, or if they should call off the game and introduce Cacao to everyone else. Cacao, however, answered the question for them by releasing Astro and running off down the road as fast as her tiny legs could carry her.

"Hey wait! Where are you going?" Astro called.
She did not respond, only vanished from view a moment later.

"Astro, Ally, Lyn! Found you all!... Seesh, you guys don't understand the concept of hiding at all, do you?" Karen scoffed, coming up to them.

"What?! Are you seriously telling me you did not just see that freaky kid run off just now?" Ally demanded, looking at Karen and pointing in the direction Cacao had gone. Karen looked down the road, then back at Ally.

"No, I saw her. Who was she?" She asked.

"I think-- Well, she said she was that energy ball form yesterday." Astro said, rubbing the back of his head.

"And the likelihood of that is...?" Karen scoffed.

"Very high actually. I didn't tell anyone about this before but.. The ball spoke to me and sounded exactly like that little girl. I she is what she claims to be." Astro said.

Karen looked interested and tilted her head. "Really? Okay, did she tell you why she tried to kill us all the other day?"

"No.. All she said was that Astro was now her personal property." Ally grumbled.

"Not exactly." Astro argued.

"Pretty much." Lyn replied in a tone just as bitter as Ally's had been.

Karen opened her mouth to ask another question, but Kennedy's voice called out from some unknown place and interrupted her. "Is the game still going?" He asked.

"Yes! But Astro had to go home, so he's not playing anymore!" Karen called back. Astro was confused but Karen looked at him again and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Look, I'm not sure what all this means, but I really, honestly believe you need to fly home and tell Dr. O'Shay everything." She said sternly.

Astro nodded, then turned and rocketed away. Karen, Ally, and Lyn watched him go. Then Karen turned and tapped both robot girls on the heads. "One, two. You both are out!" She said cheerfully, spinning on her heels and racing back into the park in search of the others.

"Wait, Karen! That wasn't fair! We didn't get to hide!" Lyn complained, running after her. Ally waved her hand dismissively and rocketed away into the sky for herself, leaving only ten friends to finish the game. Meanwhile, Astro did as Karen suggested and told Dr. O'Shay absolutely everything he could recall, right down to Cacao's appearance in the park.

"How strange.. Well, I think we must go find her, Astro. If she really is from an alien world, she won't know her way around the city and may get lost or even hurt." O'Shay said, grabbing his coat from the closet and placing it around his shoulders. Astro nodded, eager to find Cacao before either of those things happened. As they approached the door, however, the doorbell rang suddenly. Quickly, O'Shay opened it and found, to his great surprise, Detective Tawashi standing on the porch beside another man. This man was strange and unfriendly looking.

"Dr. Oshay. This man here claims that his daughter is missing. She was last seen near the Ministry of Science and I'm wondering if you've seen any small child wondering around." Detective Tawashi said.

"Oh. Well, I don't know. What does she look like?" Dr. Oshay asked.

The other man looked down at the floor. "I don't have a picture of her." He snapped.

"Can you describe her?" Detective Tawashi asked.

"Yes and no.. She's really good at changing her appearance." The man muttered.

"What does that mean?" Detective Tawashi asked.

The man did not respond. Instead, his eyes fell on Astro. A malicious glare suddenly shown on his face. "Have you seen her, young man?" He demanded.

Astro stuttered for a minute. For some reason, this man's gaze made him feel the same way he had when the red lightning and harsh voice from the energy ball attacked. For a brief second, Astro could have sworn he saw the man's eyes melt to a blood red color, then to black once again. Because O'Shay and Tawashi's attention was on the small robot boy, they did not notice the change.

"Have you seen her, Astro?" Detective Tawashi insisted.

"I-I..I don't think so." Astro stuttered, finally being able to speak when he broke eye contact with the strange man.

"What's her name? We'll keep an eye out for her." Dr. O'Shay asked kindly.

"Her name translated in your tongue would be 'Cacao'." The man said, "And she'd be loathe to change it, so she'll most definitely introduce herself by it."

Astro and Oshay felt their hearts in their throats. O'Shay tried to regain his composure as best he could. "Ou- Our tongue? What do you mean? Where is it you come from?" He stuttered.

"Far away. It does no use mentioning it to you because you most assuredly would not know of it." The man said bluntly.

"Well if you see the girl, let me know in an instant." Detective Tawashi said, tipping his hat to his two fellows and turning to leave with the strange man. Astro noticed the stranger shoot him another harsh glare before following the detective away. Astro turned to look at O'shay.

"Doctor! Something doesn't feel right about that man. I think Cacao maybe in danger if that man is looking for her!" He said urgently.

Dr. Oshay nodded, "I think you maybe right. Quickly, get in the car and let's go. Nora, take care of Zoran while we're gone!" And with that, the doctor and his robotic charge shut the door to the house and approached the vehicle.By now the sun was beginning to set orange over MetroCity and darkness had already taken many alleyways and back roads. Dr. O'shay and Astro searched for hours until the sky above them was extremely dark and starless. O'shay began to wonder if it wasn't about time that they should go home. They already missed dinner and it was passed Astro's bedtime.

"I'm afraid we may have to quit for tonight, Astro." Doctor O'shay sighed in defeat.

"We can't! Cacao maybe in real danger!" Astro complained.

"I understand Astro, but you have school in the morning. The strange man doesn't have a description of her, so it'll take awhile for anyone to find her. Who knows? Maybe she'll find you again just like she did before." O'Shay said, trying to be comforting.

"Do you really think so?" Astro asked sadly.

"Yes. I'm almost certain of it." O'Shay said.

"And you're right!" A small voice cheered behind them. O'Shay's car veered violently before coming to a screeching halt. Turning around in his chair, the doctor and Astro both found a smiling Cacao in the back seat.

"Cacao!" Astro gasped.

Cacao smiled and waved happily.

"How long have you been there, Cacao?" Dr. O'Shay asked kindly, though he was severely shaken.

"I've been here the whole time! I followed Nega to your house and climbed into your car while he wasn't looking! Aha! I am clever!" Cacao bragged, folding her arms proudly.

"Who's Nega?" Astro asked.

"Oh, he's-..." Cacao never finished her sentence however. Seconds into it, her attention fell on O'Shay's giant nose poking out over his shoulder. Slowly and intently, she leaned forward and caught hold of it, giving it a mighty squeeze. Instantly, the doctor yelped in pain.

"Cacao! Don't do that! That's his real nose and you can hurt him if you squeeze it like that!" Astro lectured, leaning over his seat to stop her. Cacao recoiled regretfully.

"Oh.. I'm sorry." She whimpered softly. A second later, her eyes drooped and she let out a huge yawn, then she collapsed on the back seat, completely unconscious. Astro watched her for a moment, then looked at Dr. Oshay. Were they really going to harbor her when Detective Tawashi was looking for her? How could they get away with that? The drive home was very quiet and Dr. Oshay pondered what to do. When they arrived, Astro took Cacao in his arms and carried her into the house. The lights were off and Zoran was already asleep. Dr. O'Shay quietly placed his coat back in the closet and turned to take Cacao from Astro.

"Go make a bed for her in the guest room, please Astro." He said softly.

Astro nodded and headed quietly up the stairs. O'Shay walked slowly after him. Just then, he felt a soft little hand on his cheek. Looking down, he saw Cacao smiling up at him. With her last effort, she came up slowly and softly kissed the tip of his nose, then slipped back to sleep. O'Shay smiled. This little alien had stolen his heart away forever. After he laid her in bed and set Astro off to sleep, O'Shay returned to the living room and called Detective Tawashi back.

"Detective. I'm sorry for calling so late, but I was wondering about that man from before. What do you know about him?" He asked.

"Not a thing. In fact, doctor, I think it may interest you to know that he's disappeared without a trace. We've been combing the city for him and his Cacao, but we haven't found either." Came the detective's tired voice.

"Really?" O'shay gasped. He now felt it safe to tell the esteemed detective the truth. Detective Tawashi listened quietly on the other side of the phone, and to O'Shay's great relief, he came to the same conclusion about the man that Astro had.

"I think you should keep her in your care for awhile, O'shay, and keep a close eye on her. I don't believe in all this space and alien junk, but whatever's going on, we'll get to the bottom of it." Tawashi said.

"Yes. Thank you detective." O'shay said softly, "Goodnight."

With that, the conversation ended and the phone was hung. O'shay retired to an overdue rest and the night continued on in peaceful silence.

Episode 2 - Robot Ghost

Though a city is never truly quiet, Astro managed to sleep peacefully all night long and well into the morning. There was no school on Saturdays, so he was allowed to do whatever he wanted to. He usually wanted to watch cartoons on Saturday, but this Saturday, he wanted to sleep in. Astro decided this was how he was going to spend his morning yesterday at school, when his friends told him they were excited they'd get to 'sleep in'. So now, Astro wanted to try it and see what the big deal was. Thus far, he was enjoying it, until a shrill sound rattled through the house:

"ASTRO!!!!!"

It was coming from Astro's little sister, Zoran. She had been built by Dr. O'Shay sometime ago. Astro sat up promptly just as Zoran burst into his room and began to bounce on his bed. "Hey, guess what! Guess what! Guess what!" She chanted, jumping up and down.

"Zoran, stop that..." Astro moaned, rubbing his eyes.

Zoran obeyed and stopped bouncing, but she was no less enthusiastic. "We have a guest coming over!" She cheered excitedly, crawling forward to look Astro in the face.

"Really?" Astro asked, coming to attention.

"Yup! Come on, Dr. O'Shay is going to tell us more!" Zoran continued, leaping off the bed and pulling persistently on her big brother's arm in attempts to get him to follow her. Astro slowly complied, went with his little sister out into the hall and down into the living room. Since Reno's bed was empty, Astro figured the young human boy had gotten up early and was already at the Ministry Of Science. To Astro's surprise, he and Zoran found O'Shay nervously pacing around and fidgeting uncomfortably with his buttons and neck tie. He was wearing his best suit which peaked Astro's curiosity about their aforementioned guest. Nora, the house-hold bot, was following O'Shay around, trying to settle him and help him get ready.

Finally, the doctor paused long enough to notice the two robot siblings. He faced them with a big, friendly grin. "Oh, hello you two! And good morning Astro, you slept in quite late today."

Astro chuckled and rubbed the back of his head. "Yeah, I did."

"Hmm. I understand Ally is back in town. Have you seen her yet?" O'Shay asked, doing his best to be subtle.

"Yeah, I met her in the park yesterday." Astro replied cheerfully.

"Ally? You mean that yellow robot girl who has a crush on you?" Zoran asked, looking to Astro.

Astro blushed slightly. "She doesn't have a crush on me!" He said defensively, though he knew perfectly well that she did. She had kissed him after all.

"Oh sure, you say that but everybody knows she does." Zoran taunted in a sing-song voice, "At least she did anyway!"

"Zoran!!" Astro snapped, feeling kind of annoyed with his little sister. Zoran only laughed.

"Well, never mind that now." O'Shay interrupted with a friendly chuckle, "An old friend of mine is coming over today. Her name is Miss Unifly."

"Miss Unifly?.. I don't think I've ever heard of her." Astro said.

"Well, you wouldn't." O'Shay laughed, sitting on the couch in order to tie his shoe without falling over. "Music isn't one of your interests. Miss Unifly is a big music producer. She travels the world scouting young musicians and offers to sponsor them in their quest to become superstars. I don't know why she's coming here, only that she said she wanted to meet you and Zoran."

"When is she coming?" Astro asked.

"She'll be here in a few hours." O'Shay said, finishing with his shoe. "Speaking of which, you'd better hurry and get ready. Miss Unifly is a very particular woman when it comes to appearances."

Astro and Zoran nodded, both hurrying upstairs to get ready. While in the middle of getting dressed, however, he was surprised to hear the doorbell ring. Was Miss Unifly here already? A resounding gasp and exclamation from Dr. O'Shay confirmed that she was. "Funny. Those few hours only felt like a few minutes." Astro thought playfully. He had one good suit meant for extravagant parties, so after slipping into that, Astro fastened on a bow-tie and decided to call it good. A moment later, Zoran came into his room holding her dress ribbon in her hand and desperately begged Astro to tie it for her.

"Can't you get Nora to help you?" Astro asked.

"Nora is down stairs! I can't get to her without Miss Unifly seeing me, and you heard what Dr. O'Shay said about appearances." Zoran moaned.

"Okay. Give it to me then, I'll help you." Astro said, reaching for Zoran's offered ribbon.

A little while later, Astro and Zoran descended the stairs. Astro was surprised at the person he saw sitting expectantly on the couch: Blazing red hair tied up in a french roll, blood red lips pressed tightly together, sharp green eyes that were outlined with long, black eyelashes and dark mascara. Her nose was as pointy and as sharp as her chin and high cheekbones. She had one leg crossed over the other and rested her long hands across the knee. Every appendage was decorated with jewelry and even her short dress and pink stockings were shiny. Her heel shoes looked sharp enough on both ends to run someone through! All in all, Miss Unifly didn't look anything at all like Astro had pictured her. He'd been expecting someone who was short and friendly looking, like O'Shay was. Instead, she looked decidedly unfriendly. Zoran must have thought so too, because she instantly hid behind her brother upon seeing the woman.

"Astro, Zoran. I'd like you to meet Miss Unifly." Dr. O'Shay said, standing and inviting his two robotic charges into the living room.

Slowly and proudly, Miss Unifly turned her head and met Astro's eyes. His robotic heart felt as though it skipped a beat. "This must be Astro." She said. Her voice was as cold and silky as the rest of her. Astro couldn't even reply, he could only nod. "A pleasure to finally meet you, I'm Miss Unifly. I've heard ever so much about you." She said coolly, sliding like a snake into a standing position and extending her hand.

"Uhhh-..." Astro squeaked, finding it harder and harder to function as she came closer. She was positively terrifying! He finally managed to swallow hard and find his smile, taking her hand for a friendly shake. "Hello. It's good to meet you." He said.

"And you must be Zoran." Unifly said, looking to Zoran and extending her hand once again after Astro let go. Astro was surprised that her tone suddenly sounded softer and grandmotherly when she addressed Zoran. Her eyes also appeared softer in their gaze. Zoran slowly took the woman's hand and shook it.

"She's perfectly adorable, O'Shay. Simply precious!" Unifly said, standing tall yet again. Instantly, Zoran warmed over the the creepy woman. O'Shay smiled while Astro quietly hurried to the doctor's side. For some reason, Astro got the feeling Miss Unifly didn't like him. "Well, it's a pleasure to meet you both." Unifly continued, "But now, we must talk business. O'Shay, will you and the kiddies kindly join me in my limo?"

"Oh, ofcourse." O'Shay said politely.

"Kiddies?" Astro thought, following Dr. O'Shay outside. Zoran was ecstatic upon seeing the long black car. Astro, however, felt things had only gotten weirder. How did a vehicle that long make turns without hitting something?

"Step inside please." Unifly begged as her chauffeur opened the back door, though it sounded more like a demand to Astro.

"Oh wow!" Zoran exclaimed once inside. Unifly slipped in shortly after her company had all been seated and took a seat opposite to them, sitting in the same position she'd been in when Astro first saw her. She watched with a pleased smile as Zoran raced to and fro inspecting everything. The black seats were outlined in hot pink lights and the floor was covered in a soft pinkish-purple carpet. The ceiling was designed to mirror the night sky, where the stars sparkled and changed different colors every few minutes.

"Astro! Astro! Look at this car!" Zoran squeeled excitedly, opening the refrigerator just to gawk at the rainbow of colorful lights on the inside.

"Posh, isn't it?" Unifly bragged proudly.

Zoran paused in her excitement for a moment and looked at Unifly. "Uhh.. That depends. What does 'posh' mean?" she asked, her attention slowly being called off to something else within the car.

Unifly rolled one hand at the driver's window. "It means fancy or stylish.." she explained, "Please take a seat now, Zoran. The car is about to take off."

Zoran quietly obeyed, though her brown eyes still scanned the interior of the vehicle in astonishment. "Posh...Posh.." She quietly repeated to herself. It was an odd word, but she liked it's sound. Astro also admired his shiny surroundings, though it still didn't make any sense to him as to why someone would want a car like this. After awhile, all those lights and things would get dizzying.

As though reading his mind, Unifly spoke to him. "Displeased, Astro?"

Astro's attention returned to his host in a snap and he quickly shook his head. "Oh no! It's wonderful, miss Unifly."

"It's posh!" Zoran added.

Unifly nodded with only half a smile, then turned to face O'Shay. "I'm a wealthy, well-known music producer as I'm sure you are aware, O'Shay." She began, "But I'm afraid I've lost my inspiration. With the recent robots-and-humans-as-equals thing, I can't seem to find any satisfaction in my work anymore." She sighed, resting her defined chin in her palm as gazing out the dark window.

"I don't understand, miss Unifly. Why would human and robot equality take away your satisfaction?" O'Shay began, his tone sympathetic and somewhat worried.

"Because it has opened my eyes to how incredibly shortsighted my talent searches have been." Miss Unifly responded.

"I'm afraid I still don't underst--"

"I've decided to seek robot talent too now." Unifly stated bluntly, interrupting Dr. O'Shay and looking directly at him.

"What?!" O'Shay gasped. Zoran squealed excitedly and hugged Astro, who was just as surprised as the doctor.

"Yes. I want Zoran and Astro to star in my newest music concert. They will be preforming with a couple of human children I previously selected, and a few other robots too of course." Unifly continued.

"But, miss Unifly--" O'shay began.

"It doesn't matter if they know how to play an instrument or not. I spare no expense when it comes to teaching, so you really have no excuse to deny me." Unifly finished, examining her fingernails in boredom.

"Well, I think it's a wonderful idea!" Dr. O'Shay cheered, looking to Zoran and Astro for their reactions. Miss Unifly went on to explain that she would pick the two robots up everyday after Astro was finished with school, and take them to her theater where they could rehearse with the other performers. Zoran was ecstatic at the idea of being on T.V, but Astro remained quiet. The following night, he decided to talk to Dr. O'Shay about it. The doctor was working late on his computer when Astro entered the room.

"Oh! Hello Astro, you should really be in bed. You have school tomorrow" O'Shay said with his usual happy tone and friendly smile.

"Doctor.. I wanted to ask you about miss Unifly." Astro began.

O'Shay looked at Astro with concern. "What about her?"

"I don't think she likes me." Astro admitted.

"What? That's ridiculous! If she didn't like you, she wouldn't have invited you to be a part of the concert. Trust me. I know how Miss Unifly acts toward people she doesn't like." Dr. O'Shay said seriously, easing Astro's worry slightly.

"How long have you known her?" Astro asked.

Dr. O'Shay was quiet for a moment, then at last he sighed with a smile. "I've known her for many years. We were really good friends in high school, in fact, I guess you could say she was my girlfriend." He laughed sheepishly.

That was information Astro found very surprising. Scary Unifly with lovable O'Shay? No way! But the robot boy politely did not voice his opinion on this. Instead, he asked another question; "What happened?"

"We had a disagreement one day, shortly before graduation, and I regret to say we never made up." O'Shay sighed.

"Sounds like you really miss her.." Astro ventured. Dr. O'Shay didn't reply, just kinda hummed sadly. "Sounds like you still like her too!"

Dr. O'shay suddenly flushed crimson and cleared his throat. "Heh-uhm, well.. That's just nonsense. Off to bed with you now."

"Sir, we have a situation." One of the officers said. His big eyes were glued to the computer which he was sitting in front of.

"What is it?" Detective Tawashi asked, turning from his previous business to look at the officer. Detective Tawashi was Metrocity's finest detective, probably the best ever.

"There's an unidentified metal object infiltrating Metrocity airspace." The officer explained.

"Is it a robot?" The detective asked, coming forward and peering over the computer-officer's shoulder to get a better look at the readings for himself.

"We don't know, sir." The officer replied.

"Ah great. UFO's now." Detective Tawashi said sarcastically. "Where's it heading?"

"Down, sir. Straight down and increasing speeds." The officer answered.

"Well, when it crashes we'll find out what it is." Detective Tawashi said, turning abruptly and striding out of the room. Several members of the ARRS followed him, including their commander bot, Delta.

Astro leaned tirelessly over his desk, writing down the answers to the complex math-questions on his sheet of paper. After awhile, miss Miyoke clapped her hands together twice. "Alright class, time's up. Please put your test papers on the table." One by one the children obeyed their teacher.

Astro read over his answers one last time as he drew close to the desk. Suddenly, his classmates cried out with astonishment. Astro turned to see everyone looking and pointing. In a flash of blinding light, a flaming something flew passed the large window on the side of the classroom! It disappeared just as suddenly as it had come, only to be followed by a loud booming noise and a tremor that shook the whole building. The class raced forward and pressed their faces against the glass to see where the strange object had gone. Red and black smoke bellowed up from an alleyway nearby. Miss Miyoke did her best to corral the children away from the window and refocus their attention. The sirens of the police squad alerted her that the situation outside was being handled.

"What was that?" Kennedy asked.

"I'll find out!" Astro stated, turning and racing from the room before miss Miyoke could protest.

Astro made it to the location just as the police did. "Astro! What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in school?" Detective Tawashi demanded grudgingly as he stepped out of his car. The detective had never quite agreed with the idea of robots being in school, but held his peace with it anyway, especially now that robots and humans were equals.

"What's going on, detective?" Astro asked, purposely avoiding the question. Tawashi didn't push the matter. He had a feeling that Astro would again be a great deal of help to him.

"We're not sure. This thing was detected by our scanners." Tawashi explained, cautiously approaching. Astro followed. "My scanners don't pick up anything, Detective." he admitted.

"Nothing? One of our officers said their was some kind of metal in this thing." The detective insisted.

Astro drew closer and peered over into the small crater and dying flames. After a moment, he shook his head. "No.. Nothing. There's not even a rock.. This crater is completely empty."

"So whatever that thing was must've obliterated itself upon contact with the earth's surface." Detective Tawashi surmised. Astro shook his head again and turned to look and the human officer.

"I don't think so, because then there'd be pieces of something scattered around the crash site.. There's nothing here that wasn't here before." Astro explained.

"So what? It got up and walked away?" Tawashi demanded, becoming a little irritated with Astro's puzzles.

"Maybe." Astro said, mostly to himself, looking down the alleyway for any sign of something that may prove his theory. There was nothing.

Detective Tuwashi dismissed the case after a while of uneventful study, but placed caution-tape around the site anyway. After school, Astro headed straight home, eager to tell Dr. O'Shay what had happened. The next few days were spent with Unifly, who would pick Astro and Zoran up in her limo and take them to rehearsal, just as she promised. They practiced for several hours a day, learning what instruments they would be playing and how to play them. Then, with the concert only a week away, Unifly took them to the actual stage to introduce them to their fellow band members.

"Now, I know this is your first time in a music stadium, so stay close or you're sure to get lost." Unifly said, her silky, pompous tone seeming just a little more friendly then it had at their first meeting. Unifly led the two robot children straight to the stage where four human children stood beside their chosen instruments, ready to begin. They eye'd Zoran and Astro quietly. Three with smiles, one with a doubtful glare.

"Alright! Children, meet Astro and Zoran. These are two of the four robots you will be preforming with at the concert next week." Unifly introduced,

"Hello everybody!" Zoran began, holding both hands behind her back and swaying from heel to toe. Three of the four human children waved, then looked at Astro as if waiting for a greeting from him as well. He responded quickly with a wave of his hand and a friendly smile. He was so out of his element, he had almost forgotten his manners.

"Karen, I'll leave it to you to take charge. You usually do anyway. I'll be back in an hour-- And remember, differences in the instruments must be put aside to create glorious harmony!" Unifly spoke suddenly, turning and disappearing behind the big red curtain.

After a moment of silence, the aforementioned Karen set her violin aside and approached the two awkward bots. "Okay, let's try that again. Hi, I'm Karen Tawashi." She said, extending her hand.

"I'm Astr- Wait! Tawashi? As in Detective Tawashi?" Astro gasped.

Karen placed both hands on her hips proudly and smiled. "The very same! The revered detective is my dad, so you don't have to worry about introducing yourself to me. He's already told me and mom plenty about you."

"All good things I hope." Astro laughed, though he knew full well it hadn't always been. "I didn't know Detective Tawashi had a daughter."

"Doesn't seem like the type, does he?" Karen laughed, "Well, it's not like it's classified information, but kind of need-to-know, since Dad makes a lot of enemies in his line of work. Not typically something folks hear about unless they live nearby."

"How did you get chosen for the concert?" Astro asked.

"I made the mistake of singing in my school talent show several weeks ago, since mystery solving isn't something you typically do in front of an expectant audience. Anyway, Miss Unifly was there scouting talent, and oops! So here I am." Karen explained, then gestured over to a familiar girl with brown hair that curled at the tips. "Let me introduce you to everybody else. Over there is C.J--"

"Yeah, I know!" Astro interrupted, smiling broadly at the sight of his old friend. "It's good to see you again." He said.

"You too." C.J said cheerfully.

Karen seems quite pleased. "Okay then." She laughed, gesturing to a young man standing behind the keyboard. "This is Alex Zapp." The young man seemed to be three to four years older than the others and was wearing a rather flamboyant sleeveless shirt. Alex reached over and shook Astro's hand happily as the robot boy approached.

"You're Alex Zapp, the so-to-be famous teen popstar? I heard your demo on the radio! It was the best ever!!" Zoran gasped in delight.

Alex laughed, looking at Zoran. "What do you know? I have a fan. And a cute one too." He said with a wink. Zoran blushed.

"You don't live here in MetroCity." Astro observed.

Alex tossed his blonde hair and smiled. "Nah, but Miss Unifly is my sponsor. I go everywhere she wants me to go. This is my debut concert actually. You lot get to preform it with me."

Zoran cheered, when suddenly a shadow passed in front of Alex's face. The little robot girl turned to see that C.J and Karen also looked pretty upset, and all were staring at the last boy who was sitting by the drums. He had been the one with the unfriendly glare when robot siblings first entered. "What's wrong?" Zoran asked, looking to everyone for any sort of explanation.

"That's Carlos." Karen said, folding her arms.
Carlos scoffed and looked away.

"Did we do something wrong?" Zoran asked, taking Astro's hand.

"No. It's just Carlos's dad works in the demolishing of old-..Uh, broken-down, beyond repair, no-hope-for-them, not-even-in-one-piece-anymore, the-scrapping-is-practically-mercy robots.... Without A.I." Karen rambled, trying to stress to her two new robot friends that Carlos's father's work was not the issue here. "He doesn't like robots too much and still thinks they should have never been given kokoro. Carlos shares these feelings. He's been acting like a jerk ever since he learned you'd be doing the show with us."

"Oh." Astro muttered, wondering why Miss Unifly would have selected someone who hated robots to be in a human-robot concert.

"Well, too bad!" Zoran shouted at Carlos suddenly, stomping her foot. "We have as much right to be here as you do!" Astro quickly seized his little sister by the mouth and pulled her back. Carlos glared, but Alex, C.J, and Karen rallied behind Zoran's statement.

"Yeah, they do." C.J said.
"Come'on, Mate, robots have been equal citizens here for a year. Get over it." Alex put in.
"Or at the very least swallow it until after the show." Karen snapped, placing her hands on her hips again in a disapproving manner.

Carlos stood suddenly and walked passed Astro, nudging him roughly. "Welcome to the show." He muttered gruffly, then continued off stage. There was a moment of silence until Zoran pulled away from Astro's grasp.

"He is sooooo mean! I'm gonna tell miss Unifly that he pushed my brother!" She shouted, full of rage.

"Zoran, it's not that big a deal. It didn't even hurt." Astro said softly, trying to quiet her.

Karen said nothing, but looked at Astro and Zoran uneasily.

"Enough of that, we've got a show to put on!" Alex said suddenly, putting an arm over Astro's shoulder. C.J smiled and took Zoran's hand. "Come on! Let's find out what your musical talents are." She said, leading the group to the pile of instruments.

The following morning proceeded in a similar way: Unifly came to pick Zoran and Astro up in her limo, only this time she actually stayed to watch them and presented the proceedings of the planned concert. "We'll have a fabulous opening with all of you playing together, then Alex Zapp will sing a couple of songs, then close with another united jam." Unifly recited. "So, let's rehearse the opening number; True Blue!" by ZONE, actual Astro Boy music.

Astro hurried to his previously assigned electric guitar while Alex went to his keyboard, Carlos went to the drums and the three girls stationed themselves in front of microphones with Karen as the lead singer. Unifly tapped a few times, then signaled the start. They flopped, tried again and flopped, tried again and failed, tried again and hardly made it through the introduction when Unifly signaled for them to stop. "Harmony!" She snapped. "You're each trying to go your own way. I demand harmony!"

Suddenly, a tall man dressed in black emerged onto the stage. "We found a couple of robot girls, miss Unifly, we'd like you to come see them." He said bluntly.

"Ah, very good. Take five, I'll be right back." Unifly said, waving her hand dismissively to the performers. "And I want harmony when I return!" Then she and the man were gone.

Karen spun on her heels and folded her arms, "Okay! Problem number one, I don't want to sing lead!" She stated firmly.

"But you've got such a great voice, Karen." Alex protested.

"I'm not interested in a career as a singer. I'm going to join the police force one day, just like my dad. I don't want to be seen as the detective girl with a great voice. I want to be taken seriously. I'm not singing lead." Karen replied.

"Problem number two, Carlos keeps trying to upstage Astro and Alex!" C.J accused.

"I am not!" Carlos argued.

"Are too! You keep missing notes and making them sound bad!" C.J snapped.

"It's not Carlos. We've been practicing for weeks, but I still don't think I've got the hang of this thing yet." Astro interrupted, striking a few chords to prove his point.

"Let's try something else. C.J, you sing lead." Karen suggested.

"No way! I don't even know the lead's part." C.J protested.

"Guys! Don't fight!" Zoran moaned.

"We're not fighting!" C.J snapped.

Contrary to her statement, a big fight broke out just then. Everyone was yelling and pointing fingers as to who should do what, or who did what that ruined it, when suddenly Unifly reappeared on stage. Quietly, she strode to Carlos's drum set, swiped his drumstick and slammed the ride cymbal very hard. Everyone clutched their ears and fell silent. "Now, what is the meaning of this?" Unifly demanded. Again the fighting picked up, and again Unifly hit the cymbal. "Nonsense! Utter nonsense!" She hollered. Slowly, she turned and beckoned to the curtain where two robot girls shyly emerged. One was pink and obviously robot, the other wore a purple dress but looked just as human as Astro or Zoran did.

"Karen, if you don't want to sing lead, let Lyn do it." Unifly said, tossing the drumstick back to Carlos. "Introduce yourselves, girls." Miss Unifly sighed as she hurried past the newcomers and disappeared behind the curtain.

There was a moment of awkward silence. "Uhm.. Hi." Karen chuckled nervously, "Which one of you is Lyn?"

The human-looking one with long, dark hair raised her hand. "I am." She spoke. Her voice was strangely enchanting to Astro, he couldn't help but stare for a moment.

"My name is Jade!" Said the other one. She wore a pink, knitted hat with a little fluffy ball sewn on the top and matching arm coverings.

"Well, we're all pleased to meet the two of you." Karen said, turning to face the others. "I'm Karen, that's C.J, Alex, Carlos, Astro, and Zoran." Jade and Lyn nodded their hellos, then Karen dragged Lyn off learn the lead lyrics. Astro watched Lyn for a moment. Why'd she look so familiar to him? Rehersals continued, but strangely miss Unifly did not return for the rest of the day...

---------

That night, Astro and Zoran came home to find Unifly at their house again. She sat beside Dr. O'Shay and his computer talking hurriedly.

"What's going on?" Zoran asked. Unifly and O'Shay glanced up unanimously. It seemed to Astro that O'shay seemed exasperated and kinda worried.

"Nothing. Go to bed children, you have rehearsal tomorrow." Unifly said bluntly.

"But I have rocket ball practice after school tomorrow." Astro protested.

"Then you have rocket ball practice tomorrow, go to bed." She snubbed, jerking her head in one direction to signal the duo which way to go.

"I don't have to go to school or to rocket ball practice." Zoran stated indignantly, hoping to get an invitation to stay, but Unifly didn't look up from the screen. Hesitantly, Astro grabbed Zoran's hand and lead her upstairs to her bedroom.

"What do you think they're talking about, Astro?" Zoran asked as she snuggled down into her bed. Astro drew the blanket up to her chin and tucked her. "I don't know, Zoran." He admitted, though he wondered if they might be discussing whatever it was they fought about in high school whn they broke up.

"Will you find out?.. It could be trouble, and if it's trouble you have to save the day." Zoran said, her tone innocent and sleepy.

"I'll see what I can find out, but I'm not going to listen in to Dr. O'Shay and miss Unifly's private conversation." Astro said, placing his hands on his hips.

"Maybe they're talking about going on a date.. Wouldn't that be nice?" Zoran muttered slowly.

"Wait! How'd you figure out about that?" Astro gasped, but with no response. Zoran had slipped off to sleep. Astro leaned forward and gently kissed her on the forehead, "Goodnight Zoran." He whispered, then turned and tip-toed from the room. As her door clicked shut, Astro suddenly heard Unifly cry out. "She's a ghost, I tell you! A ghost!"

"Miss Unifly, calm down. I think you're over-reacting. Lyn is a robot. You said so yourself." O'Shay comforted.

"I practically raised Katie Slade! I'd know her anywhere! It's not possible that someone would just happen to come up with her every detail in a robot!" Unifly argued.

So that's where Astro had seen her before! Zoran had been watching a music video sung by Katie Slade just last month. Lyn looked exactly like her!

"Katie died, O'Shay!.. The plane blew up, and Katie died!" Unifly stressed.

Astro couldn't listen to anymore, he'd promised Zoran that he wouldn't do exactly what he was doing right now. Quickly, Astro raced to his room and shut the door so he wouldn't be able to accidentally hear anything else. Reno was already sound asleep in his own bed, so Astro quietly retired and went to bed for himself. The following morning proceeded with rocket ball to look forward to after school, instead of rehersal, much to Astro's delight. When Astro entered the classroom, he was greeted by Abercrombie, Alejo, and Kennedy.

"Hey Astro! Say, where have you been all month? We hardly see you around anymore." Ambercrombie said.

"I'm sorry. I've been rehearsing for a big concert in a few days." Astro explained.

"You're in a concert? What concert?" Kennedy asked.

Astro did not get a chance to asnwer before miss Miyoke entered the room. "Class, we have a new student today." Miss Miyoke spoke loudly, going to her desk. At her side was a small figure in a purple dress, shyly hiding behind her own black hair. Astro almost fell over.

It was Lyn!

"Her name is Lyn. I want you all to treat her with kindness and make her feel very welcome. We're all very happy to have her here." Miss Miyoke introduced. The class greeted Lyn in unison. "Astro, since Lyn is a robot starting school like you did, I'd like you to be her friend and show her around, please. Help her get used to everything."

"Yes miss Miyoke." Astro said happily.

"Take your place beside Astro please." Miyoke whispered to Lyn, pointing the assigned spot out to her new charge. Lyn looked about shyly at the other kids before gluing her eyes to her lap and quickly taking her seat.

"Hi Lyn." Astro whispered in a friendly way, waving at her.

Lyn slowly looked up at him. "H-Hi Astro." she whispered, blushing.

"So, you're going to be attending school with us here in Metrocity now, huh?" Astro asked, trying to help Lyn feel more comfortable. Lyn smiled and nodded. "Great! That means we'll be seeing a lot more of each other." Astro said.

Lyn again blushed, "That'd be nice." She replied, her voice quiet and shy.

"We can play together at recess. I'll introduce you to my friends." Astro whispered.

"Alright class, let's begin." Miss Miyoke spoke suddenly. The two robots and all their human classmates then got to work. When at last the recess bell rang, Astro led Lyn out to the playground where they found Abercrombie, Alejo, and Kennedy all waiting. After Astro introduced all the boys by name to Lyn, Kennedy suggested they play rocket ball.

"Do you know how to play Rocket Ball, Lyn?" Astro asked. Lyn slowly shook her head.

"Well, come with us to the park. We'll explain it on the way." Alejo beckoned, racing off with the others in hot pursuit.

When they made it to the park, they were all ready to play save one problem; the teams weren't even. "I don't want to be a bother, Astro. I'll just watch." Lyn said politely, slipping backwards.

"No, that's okay." Astro said.
"We just need to find someone else to play." Alejo added.

"I'd love to play!" A feminine voice spoke suddenly. The five children looked around for the mysterious speaker, only to have Ally hover down and land in front of them. "And I know the game quite well." She said with a wink.

"Alright! We have equal teams!" Astro cheered.

Ally's smile faded suddenly as she noticed Lyn. "Who are you?" She demanded.

"This is our new friend, Lyn. She's an robot like Astro and yourself." Kennedy introduced.

"Who are you?" Lyn asked, smiling kindly.

"I'm Ally." She replied, her face virtually expressionless. "I hope you're a fast learner, but even if you're not, just don't cry about it and we'll get along. Fair enough?"

Lyn seemed to become flustered by this. It was even unexpected for Astro.
"Come on, Ally, be nice. It's okay, Lyn, we'll teach you. Let's play!" he said, rallying everyone together.

Ally's smile returned instantly. "Sure thing! Astro, Kennedy and I against you three!" She called, snatching the ball and heading down the park yard with it.

There was no argument. The boys shot off and Lyn followed awkwardly behind.

Ally tossed the ball to Kennedy, then Kennedy to Astro. Abercrombie and Alejo couldn't keep up very well. Lyn watched the players closely until Kennedy scored a goal on the stump of the old oak, then Lyn smiled. "Okay, I understand now." She muttered to herself.

The second round begun. Lyn slipped in front of Kennedy as Astro passed the ball, and intercepted it. She tossed it to Alejo, who in turn passed it to Abercrombie. Their goal was the lamp-post. As the ball came back to Lyn, Ally suddenly seized it and carried it back up the park yard to the oak tree, tossing it to Astro. Astro caught the ball just as Lyn did: their hands slid across the smooth surface and touched. Lyn and Astro stared at one another for a minute. Lyn flushed crimson, then smiled and pulled the ball from Astro's hands. She carried it down the park and scored a goal.

"I thought you'd never played before!" Kennedy huffed.

Lyn smiled shyly as her team mates congratulated her. Ally skidded around and looked at Lyn with a smirk. "Alright, no more taking it easy on the beginner. Let's play!" She said, taking the ball and racing off again.

Astro received the ball and tossed it to Kennedy, but just before Kennedy's fingers touched the circular object, Lyn leapt clean over his head and caught it instead. Upon landing, she found Ally, who took hold of the ball and flipped over both Lyn and Kennedy; throwing it to Astro who scored the goal.

"Three to two!" Ally cheered, leaping up and down with her fists in the air. Suddenly, she turned to Astro. "How long are we playing?" She asked.

"Until the bell rings!" Astro replied with a smile, racing by her.

"So, it isn't over till it's over, huh?" Ally laughed evilly, rubbing her hands together. "I love it!" She joined her team mates in one final round. Kennedy had the ball this time and tossed it to Astro, but it was intersepted by Lyn.

"Abercrombie! Here!" Lyn called, tossing the ball in his direction. Abercrombie hit the ball with his chest, sending it high into the air.

"Astro! Give me a boost!" Ally called suddenly. Astro aided Ally in launching herself skyward and seizing the ball. Lyn, whom had foreseen this, also grabbed the ball when it was in reach; the girls pulled back and forth and eventually landed on the ground where they lost their balance and toppled over. The ball rolled from their hands and into Astro's, but that was it. The bell rung just then, signalling the end of the game and the beginning of second period.

"We win!" Kennedy cheered.

"Aw, we came in close second." Alejo huffed.

Lyn stood and dusted herself off. "Well done, Lyn." Ally spoke suddenly, drawing the strange robot girl's attention. "I'm quite impressed."

Lyn smiled and offered to help Ally up. Ally accepted Lyn's friendly gesture this time and smiled. "I look forward to seeing you around." Ally said, she then turned to the boys. "Well, since I don't do class, I'll catch you kids later."

"Bye Ally!" They all cheered separately.

"Bye Ash!" Ally said flirtatiously, landing a kiss on his cheek before rocketing off into the sky. Astro touched his cheek and looked after his kisser. "Ally!" He moaned in embarrassment. Abercrombie, Kennedy, and Alejo laughed tauntingly, then turned and headed for class. Lyn's smile fell, as did her hand that had waved goodbye to Ally. Her robotic heart pounded with jealousy, much to her own surprise.

"Come on Lyn! We don't want to be late for class!" Astro called. Lyn hurried to catch up with him, which didn't take much effort, considering he slowed to a walk. His smile was gone and a look of curiosity replaced it. "Uhm, Lyn.. Do you happen to know a Katie Slade?" He asked.

Lyn looked at him, but had no familiarity in her eyes. "No. I don't think I've ever heard of her." She admitted.

"Well, last night, miss Unifly said that you look exactly like her." Astro explained.

"Really?" Lyn chuckled.

"She also said that Katie Slade died in a plane accident sometime ago." Astro continued.

Lyn bent her eyebrows. "That's horrible!" She exclaimed sorrowfully.

"Do you know who created you, Lyn?" Astro asked, pausing for a moment in his stride. Lyn also paused, her eyes were on to the walkway at their feet. For a moment, she was silent. Then at last, she looked up into his face.

"I-..I really don't know, Astro. All I can remember is feeling very weak and being surrounded by fire, then blacking out. I woke up in Anton's hideout, all fixed up and feeling better then ever!" Lyn explained with a smile and shrug. "There are times when I think I can remember something before that, but it's all just a blur."

"Fire? Wait! So you were the fireball that passed by our school window and crashed in that alleyway." Astro gasped. That was why she looked familiar to him! He must have caught a brief glimpse of her when she passed the school window.

Lyn shrugged. "I don't know. Anton said he found me in an alleyway, but he didn't say much more about it."

"Who's Anton?" Astro asked, tilting his head to the side. He'd met an 'Anton' in the Space Academy about a year ago, but seriously doubted it was the same person.

Lyn laughed, "He doesn't want anyone to know about him, but don't worry. I'm sure you'll meet him someday. You might even meet Ring-Ring too!"

"Who's Ring-Ring?" Astro asked.

"He's another robot who Anton repaired." Lyn explained.

"Repaired? So, is Anton a scientist?" Astro persisted.

"Well, I guess he's something similar to that, but he's a robot just like you and me." Lyn shrugged. Astro wanted to ask more questions, but Lyn tugged on his arm. "Come on! We're gonna be late!" She laughed, pulling him along. She'd suddenly become quite livelier after her meeting with Ally.

"So how long have you known Ally?" Lyn asked, as though reading his thoughts.

"Uhm... A while, I guess. I don't get to see her too often." Astro shrugged, he didn't really have an answer. In reality, he didn't think he'd known Ally very long, but somewhere inside of him, he felt as though he'd known her all his life.

"Why not?" Lyn asked casually.

"She hasn't been in Metrocity for a year, but even before that, she spent most of her time with our creator." Astro explained.

"So you were created by the same person." Lyn observed, her tone sounding somewhat dismal at discovering this. Before Astro could determine why, she shook it off and perked up. "Uhm, who is your creator?"

"His name is Dr. Tenma." Astro answered quickly, trying to get time to squeeze in a question of his own. Lyn purposely didn't permit it.

"So, if Dr. Tenma created you both, I assume you and Ally are pretty close then?" She asked. She was probing, that much was obvious, and she wasn't as subtle about it as Dr. O'Shay-- Even Dr. O'Shay wasn't all that subtle. Still, Astro was rapidly loosing sight of what Lyn's motives might be.

"Yeah, she's my friend." Astro insisted.

Lyn sighed. "You two are friends? Pardon my say so, Astro, but she doesn't seem all that nice to me."

"Yeah, well, she's a little edgy around strangers. I guess that's just because of the environment she lived in, I heard somewhere that affects people." Astro said.

"So, you and Ally don't have.. Sorta, a thing, going on?" Lyn insisted, casting him a sideways glance. Oh. That was what she was getting at. Astro's cheeks suddenly felt very hot. Why did everyone assume he and Ally were in some kind of relationship? Astro's embarrassment increased dramatically when he looked ahead to see Abercrombie, Kennedy, and Alejo looking back at him with teasing grins.

"What?.. No! No, we don't." He said quickly, "Hurry up! Class'll start any minute!" And with this, he rushed ahead of both Lyn and his human friends, trying to hide his pink face. Lyn and the boys followed after him, all except Lyn snickering with fiendish delight.

-------------

The days of rehearsal and school flew by quickly, and in no time, the day of the concert was upon them. As the eight performers crammed back stage and wished each other luck, a familiar voice called Astro's attention. Ally leaned casually against the wall and smirked at him. "Well, well, well. Hero boy's got hidden talents." She teased.

"Hi Ally! What are you doing here?" Astro asked happily.

"I couldn't find you at your house, so I followed O'Shay's car all the way here. Seeing you and Zoran in a musical should be quite entertaining." She laughed, coming forward a bit.

"It's a concert, Ally, not a musical." Astro corrected with a laugh of his own.

"Astro! We're on in five minutes." Karen spoke suddenly, peaking around the stage. She looked surprised when she noticed Ally. "Oh!... Hello Ally."

Ally smiled, somewhat coldly, at Karen who returned the sugar-coated displeased look. Astro held his breath. Ally was known to be a bit of a trouble maker, it wouldn't be surprising if she had some quarrel with the detective's daughter.

"Hi." Ally replied.

"What are you doing here?" Karen asked.

"I've come to watch my two friends preform music for the first time in their entire lives." Ally replied, shooting Astro a teasing smile.

"Then you'd better find your seat, we're just about to start." Karen said quickly, then tugged on Astro's arm. "Come on." Astro wanted to ask how the two girls had first been introduced to one another, but that would have to wait for another time. It was clear they didn't have time.

Ally patted his shoulder as Karen dragged him away. "Break a leg, Ash." She said with a wink, "Tell Zoran I said so to her too." And with that, Ally turned and disappeared out the door. Astro watched her leave, then turned to face the curtain.

"Welcome everyone!" Unifly's voice echo'd out over the speakers. "I'd like to thank you all for coming to Alex Zapp's debut concert. This is the first time robots and humans will preform on stage together!"

"Humans and robots?" A gruff voice muttered suddenly. Astro turned to see Carlos adjusting his drums to the correct position, before glaring up at him. "Ghosts and humans would be more accurate, wouldn't you agree?" he snapped.

"Leave Lyn alone, Carlos." Astro replied, becoming irritated with the human boy's attitude.

"It's not just Lyn. Somebody else is back from the dead." Carlos hissed.

"What do you mean?" Astro asked but it was too late. The curtain lifted just a second later. The crowd's applause roared up, and the music began. Throughout the concert, Astro's thoughts couldn't help travel back to what Carlos had said. If he wasn't talking about Lyn, who was he talking about? Where had Lyn come from anyway? Who had created her? Why did she look so much like Katie Slade? Was it on purpose?

Unfortunately. nobody could answer these questions...
...At least, not where he could hear them...

.....Somewhere not far from the concert hall, a dark, foreboding figure sat with his sharp, metallic fingers intertwined. A black cape with a high collar and an oddly shaped hat, shielded his metal face from sight.

His voice was deep and haunting as it spoke unheard words to his creation, "Our time draws near, Katie. Astro will not long stand in my way.".

Episode 1 - Memories

((Thanks to the gazillion views this blog has received, I'm starting it up again! I'm sorry I can't vouch for how quickly each episode will be posted because it takes a lot of writing, but I can say there are about 50 episodes in the works. Big thanks to everyone for their interest! I hope you enjoy!))

It's been a year since The Robotonia Incident. The humans and robots of MetroCity, now regarded as equals, live in peace together. Though there are still those who harbor feelings of mistrust, they are few in number and quite passive. Astro, no longer needing to save the world, enjoys more time with his friends and family...

-----------------------------------------------------------------

"Catch it Astro!" Kennedy called, tossing a rocket ball as far as he could.

Alejo and Abercrombie, who were on the opposing team, dashed after it in attempts to catch it before their robot friend did. The four boys had all come to the park after school to roughhouse and get a little ball practice in before dinner. They had found a big, yet secluded part of the park to play, so that nobody would get in the way and be accidentally hurt.

"Got it!" Astro called, barely seizing the ball before Abercrombie could.

"That tree is the goal!" Kennedy called, pointing to a big oak which stood tall in the center of their playing ground.

"Okay!" Astro replied, heading for the tree in hopes of scoring a point. The three human children followed behind him, each panting hard and laughing even harder. It was very hard to keep up with Astro, even when he was running as a human's pace.

"Go for it!" Kennedy called. Astro aimed, but never threw the ball. Instead, he stopped suddenly and came to a halt. The others noticed this and also slowed up.

"What is it, Astro?" Kennedy asked, though his question was soon answered without Astro having to say a word: There was a sound in the air, rising gently above the singing birds and the clamoring city. It was the sound of a beautiful melody being played on a flute. The song was soft and enchanting. As it increased in volume, it seemed nature itself fell silent to listen. In awe, none of the boys dared move. Where was it coming from? Their eyes scanned their surroundings for it's maker, but with no luck. Then just as suddenly as it had risen, the tune died away, and with it went the spell. The sounds of the wind in the trees, singing birds, and the busy city noises in the distance all returned.

"What was that?" Alejo asked, taking a few steps forward and looking around.

"I don't know. Let's look around and see if we can find where it came from." Kennedy suggested. All in agreement, the four boys separated in search of the music maker, wandering different directions until they were quite a ways away from each other. At first, their search was fruitless. Then the tune was replayed. Astro noticed it was loudest near the oak tree and quickly, he made his way toward it.
Once there, an unexpected sight met his eyes: Amid the intertwined trunk, sat a interesting yellow character whom he'd been quite familiar with in the past.

Ally.
A robot girl, the same size as Astro.

Astro's creator, Dr. Tenma, built Ally's body a long time ago, but he had never completed the robotics inside. It was a mystery to everyone how Ally could function like a real robot when she was nothing more than an empty shell with a artificial brain and half a heart. Sometime in the past, Dr. Tenma had confirmed Ally's claim that she was activated by a powerful bolt of lighting during a terrible thunderstorm... But beyond that, neither of them would say. Astro considered her a friend, but she was as much a mystery to him as to anyone. Even more mysterious than her activation and ability to function, however, was her special ability: Ally could copy another robot's powers and sometimes even human memories, just by touching them.
Once, Ally was kind enough to let Dr. O'Shay scan her while she used this ability, in order to figure out how it worked. His conclusion attributed her ability to microscopic, seemingly radioactive, metal shavings that were floating around inside her empty body. These tiny flakes would replicate whatever function produced the strongest energy in another entity.

Astro reflected on how important that moment had been for Dr. O'Shay, because Ally's attitude toward him was typically one of contempt--- Not for any reason in particular, Ally just spent most her time with Dr. Tenma in his secret base and adopted a lot of the man's opinions. Astro had only occasionally seen her when she wasn't by the doctor's side, but those few moments had been very precious ones for them both. Ally was a great help to Astro a couple of times during tough scrapes, and he remembered with fondness the times they would watch the sunset and talk, just the two of them... Striking upon this thought, Astro's mind turned to the last time he'd seen Ally:

*******
It was a year ago, while he was listening to Dr. O'Shay's speech at the Human and Robot Partnership celebration. Toward the end, Astro decided to slip away. He remembered thinking he was alone as he headed down the darkened hallway, then suddenly he saw Ally. She was smiling, but her eyes seemed sad.

"Where you going, Astro?" She'd asked in playful innocence.

"Outside.. I just need some fresh air." He'd replied.

"Robots don't need air, silly." She said, laughing at him. He chuckled a little bit too.

"I know." He said, rubbing the back of his head. "So what are you doing here?"

"Well, it's not like I have anywhere else to be now that Dr. Tenma is in jail." She said, shrugging. Astro could tell she was unhappy, but he understood why. A silence followed. It had always been awkward between the two of them whenever Tenma was brought up. Ally was so incredibly loyal to him..

Once, Ally told Astro she just wanted to feel that she belonged; she wanted to be accepted by Dr. Tenma, but his focus had always been completely on Astro. She followed up this confession by admitting to Astro's face that she was jealous of him.. Still, they never let that hurt their friendship. What would it mean for them now? Astro and Dr. Tenma had technically remedied their relationship when the man conceded that he wasn't fit to be the robot's father.

How did that make Ally feel?

"You can still visit him, you know." Astro said to Ally.

Ally's eyes went to the floor. "Yeah I know." She said, "I'm going to after I tell you something."

"Tell me what?" He'd asked with a friendly grin.

"Uhm... Something." She repeated awkwardly.

This was a change. Ally was always spunky and confident, but now she seemed shy and embarrassed. "I know we've kinda had our differences: You've always been loyal to your doctor and your human friends, whereas I was loyal to somebody who didn't exactly like either of those. Still, I've always considered you my best friend-- Probably my only friend."

"No, don't say that. You have plenty of friends, same as I do. Reno and Abercrombie and Aleijo and Kennedy, remember?" He'd said quickly, giving her an encouraging smile.

"I guess.. But to be honest with you, Astro, sometimes you've made me mad. I was mad that you kept putting yourself in danger to protect humans that didn't even like you, and I was mad at you for not giving up." She started, fidgeting uncomfortably.

"Oh. I see." He'd said, somewhat taken back by this.

"I don't feel that way anymore though! In fact, I haven't felt that way for a while." She added quickly, "Heh. I know my timing in confessing this really makes me seem like a fair weather friend. I wanted to do it before The Robotonia Incident but-- ... I just can't go away without telling you that I'm sorry for everything. I'm sorry I wasn't a better friend and support to you.."

He frowned. He could tell something was really weighing on her mind. She wouldn't meet his eyes. "It's okay. I forgive you. Everything is going to be fine now."

Ally still didn't look up, but a soft smile appeared on her face. "That's what I admire most about you, Astro; your ability to forgive. You're so nice, and brave, and your determination to stand for what you believed in really inspired me. Truth is, I was only angry at you because I was afraid for you. I'm glad that you never gave up. What you've done and everything, I think it's really great. You've caused me to reconsider my own position on humans and robots... But I'm not sure my loyalties to Tenma will ever change." Finally, she looked at him, her attention becoming intent as she did. "I'm proud of you for what you've done. Also, I--... I... Well, I..." She struggled for a moment in a silent battle with her thoughts, then she stuck out her hand and smiled kindly at him. He didn't fully understand. He thought she was just making sure they were friends, so he smiled and took her hand.

That's when it happened; She pulled him closer, leaned forward, and kissed him on the cheek. "I love you, Astro. I've loved you forever and I'll love you until the day I die." She'd whispered. Then she let go, and turned to leave.

He was stunned, but called after her. All she did was return one of her usual 'over-the-shoulder-wink's, then she was gone.

*******

And that was the last he'd seen or heard of her until now.

"Hey Ally!" Astro cheered, climbing over one of the big oak's trunks. She ceased her playing instantly and looked up at him. At first her expression was alert, then it changed to a big smile.

"Hey Ash! What's up?" She replied happily, hiding her flute from view. Astro's heart felt tickled with joy hearing that name again. It was an affectionate nickname she'd given him, probably because 'Ash' sounded similar to the beginning of 'Astro'. Ally patted the root at her side, inviting him to come sit next to her,

"I haven't seen you in forever! Where have you been?" He asked, accepting up the invitation.

"Around." She answered with a casual shrug, "I decided to do a little exploring of the world."

"Why?" Astro asked.

"You never miss a trick, do you?" She chuckled, resting her cheek on her shoulder as she looked at him. There was a pause, then her attention went to the clear blue sky. "After everything was said and done, I felt I didn't have a place I truly belonged anymore, so I went exploring to see if I could find one."

Astro frowned. "And did you?"

Ally smiled and looked back at him. "I sure did! It's right here in Metrocity." She said cheerfully. Astro forced a brief smile, but it fell all too quickly and his gaze dropped to the ground.

"I'm sorry. I didn't realize you'd been affected like that." He admitted.

"Pfft! Nothing ever affects me. You know that." She said, waving her hand dismissively. "So, you here with anyone?"

"Yeah. Alejo, Abercrombie and Kennedy." He replied, pointing over his shoulder.

"Oh? And what were you boys up to?" She asked with a smirk.

"We were playing rocket ball until we heard your song." Astro replied. For a moment, he thought he detected worry on Ally's face.

"Song?" She asked.

"Yeah, that song you were just playing.  It was amazing! I didn't know you played the flute!" Astro said, rising to his feet and extending arms to show his enthusiasm. Ally only smiled nervously.

"Th- Thanks." She stuttered, looking at the hidden flute next to her. Quickly, she grabbed it and stood up too. "Try and forget you heard it, okay?"

Astro was surprised by this request and about to question why, when he suddenly heard Kennedy's voice calling for him. "Over here!" He shouted. Quickly, the three human boys appeared from the other side of the tree. Ally quickly hid her flute behind her back and smiled broadly.

"Did you find out where the song was coming from?" Kennedy asked.

Astro flashed a look at Ally. "Yeah, Ally was doing it!" He said, pointing at her.

"Ally?" Abercrombie asked, looking at the yellow robot girl in confusion.

"Yeah! You remember her, don't you?" Astro insisted, "She used to hang out with me?"

"Hi boys." Ally said with a finger wiggle wave. Astro smirked lightly as he remembered Ally had always been a tad flirtatious. She mostly did it to annoy or stun, but sometimes it was in true spirit.

"Oh yeah!" Abercrombie cheered, "I remember now! Hi Ally."

"We haven't seen you for over a year! How've you been?" Kennedy began, trying to be friendly.

"Oh just fabulous, Darlings! You know me." Ally said, lifting one hand and depending her voice in a playfully pompous manner, then she laughed and jumped down from the tree root. Casually, she flicked the bridge of Alejo's glasses as she walked passed him.

"So does this mean we'll be seeing more of you now?" Astro asked, watching her go.

"Yeah actually, you'll be seeing a lot of me." She replied, looking over her shoulder and winking at him. She then turned fully and blasted off into the air. Tenma had installed rocket boosters in her legs sometime after she and Astro first met. Astro would always remember that day: When a curious yellow robot caught him watching the sunset atop the Ministry Of Science and decided to join him at it. That was when they started the tradition of watching sunsets together... It was also the day Ally first met Dr. O'Shay, when she curiously pinched the bridge of his nose and refused to believe it was real. This thought caused Astro to shake his head. "Poor doctor." He thought, "That's always happening to him."

"Aww... It's too bad she was in such a hurry to leave." Alejo moaned, "I wanted to hear that song again."

"Yeah, so did I.." Astro began, "But I actually get the feeling she doesn't want anyone to hear that song."

"Hmmmm I wonder why." Kennedy stated.

The four boys stared off in the direction Ally had flown away.

"Me too." Astro thought.
